The 1960s were a time of a major social and political change in Scotland. For many, the decade was characterised by economic hardship—though an increasing sense of national identity also emerged.

There were also major technological advancements in Scotland in the 1960s. By the end of the decade, almost all homes had electricity and the appliances that came with it such as refrigerators and washing machines.

Many Scots, particularly the younger generation, were also rallying against the establishment. The decade saw people come together to protest against nuclear weapons and for civil rights, while legendary bands such The Beatles and The Rolling Stones provided the soundtrack.
