Ben Doak nears Bournemouth transfer switch as Scotland star faces up to Liverpool reality

The Cherries are set to pay the Reds £25million to land the winger just three years after his £600,000 move from Celtic

Ben Doak is close to sealing a £25million transfer switch to Bournemouth, according to a report.

The former Celtic youngster has been linked with a host of English Premier League clubs this summer but looks to have settled on the Cherries as his next destination, according to the Guardian.

Doak looked set for a bright Anfield future under Jurgen Klopp, who tipped him for big things after bringing him into the first team fold.

However, Arne Slot's arrival saw him fall down the pecking order and he spent last season on loan at Middlesborough.

Slot has spent big this summer, bringing in Hugo Ekitike while chasing a record-breaking deal for Newcastle rebel Alexander Isak.

Mo Salah's status on Merseyside meant Doak was going to struggle to get a first team look in and it's seemed inevitable for a while that he would have to move on in order to get the game time he needs.

Now he's set to make the move to the South Coast - but could be back at Anfield immediately with Bournemouth facing the champions in the opening game of the Premier League season this evening.

Liverpool legend Did Hamann told Doak that a return to Celtic would see him play regularly, but a move back to Glasgow always seemed unlikely given the number of English top flight clubs keen to land Doak.
