Calvin Stengs breaks Celtic cover as two revived transfers can fulfil Brendan Rodgers wish
A winger is high on the shopping list for the Hoops boss with Feyenoord opening the door for Stengs to leave
Feyenoord misfit Calvin Stengs has declared he is fully fit amid doubts over his injury record with Celtic tracking a deal.
Brendan Rodgers has made no secret of his demands for deals with time ticking down on the summer window.
The boss is focussing on more attacking threats - with a replacement for Nicolas Kuhn high on the shopping list while Jota remains sidelined through injury.
Go Ahead Eagles' star Jakob Breum and Royal Antwerp’s winger Michel-Ange Balikwisha have been on their radar - but reports in the Netherlands suggest that Stengs has been made available with the Premiership champions among the suitors.
A fee in the region of £5.1million has been floated as the Eredivise side look to recoup the fee they paid Nice for the wide man in 2023.
Since the arrival of Robin van Persie, Stengs has yet to play a minute of competitive football for Feyenoord after a season plagued with knee injury issues last term.
But Stengs insists that the blip last season should not put off his gaffer - or potential suitors - as he looks to progress his career.
He told RTV Rijnmond: "Last season I was injured a bit more, but people forget that I played football for seven years straight.
"Last season was actually the only time I was sidelined three times. That's often blown out of proportion.
"It's frustrating for me that it's happening, but I just want to look forward and prove myself."
The void left by Kyogo Furuhashi's departure in January has yet to be filled with Adam Idah starting the season as the first-choice striker.
Shin Yamada has arrived as back-up this summer to compete with Johnny Kenny and Ireland international Idah.
David Strelec's dad has already claimed this summer Celtic have revived their interest in the Slovan Bratislava star from the winter window - but little movement has followed.
Speculation over his future has ramped up once again after he was played a back-up role to summer recruit so far this season Mykola Kukharevych - with boss Vladimir Weiss being openly critical about the Slovakia international's performances.
Asked about the decision to drop Strelec, Weiss said: "We took Strelec out of the game. We weren't effective enough up front. We didn't serve him, but he needs to serve the whole team."
Cluj frontman Louis Munteanu is among a list of targets, with reports suggesting the Hoops had a £6.9m bid rejected for the Romanian striker earlier in the window.
Reports claim that the Hoops' have cooled their interest over the bumper £15million price tag placed on the Munteanu but an ally of the striker would be interested in Celtic - if they reach the Champions League and see off Kairat - amid interest from Rennes and Valencia.
Former Romania U21 coach Daniel Pancu - who worked with the 23-year-old as he progressed through the ranks said to Sport: "He is a rare player, he is a rare striker. Another player with a great margin of progress.
"Mentally he has strengthened a lot, and he still has a margin of progress.
"I hope he can play for the senior national team as soon as possible, and in western Europe. He can score goals there too, because he is a player with fantastic quality.
"I lean more towards Spain. The championship in France is very physical, I think it would be more appropriate in Spain, where there is a smoother football. But he could focus on playing in the Champions League (with Celtic.)
"You can't have it all, even if now we are talking about a 23-year-old player, who is the top scorer of the championship in Romania. He has very big prospects and very high quality. "
