Ricky Hatton has confirmed his son Campbell has retired from boxing at the age of just 24.

The Manchester youngster launched a bid to try and emulate his legendary father's success when he turned professional in 2021.

Hatton Jr won his each of his first 14 bouts and boxed on the undercards of some mega bills including Anthony Joshua's first heavyweight showdown with Oleksandr Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Derek Chisora's clash with former world champion Joseph Parker.

However, the "Hurricane" suffered a major setback last year when he was on the end of back-to-back points decision defeats to domestic rival James Flint, the first of which was for the Central-Area super-lightweight title.

And Hatton Snr - a former two-weight world champion who fought the likes of Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao - says those losses coupled with a trauma in his personal life meant that the fighter not longer had the desire to step back into the ring.

He told Boxing Now: "Campbell won't be fighting again.

"He didn't have a lot of amateur experience. He gave it a go in the amateurs and then went pro.

"He fought for the area title and got beat, (which) I thought he lost to be fair.

"He then fought the same lad again straight after and I thought he won that one. But he didn't get the decision, they were both very close fights.

"He lost a little bit of his mojo then he had a few things (that went) wrong. He sadly lost one of his best mates Justin who passed away at 27 years of age.

"He went through a bit of a time. He was in the gym but he lost his mojo and his heart wasn't in it.

I said: 'Listen son, you should be very proud of yourself, you gave it a go'.

"But I also said: 'If you have lost your mojo, you need to get out of this game. You can play at any other sport but you can't play at boxing'.

"He's now doing solar panels. He has gone into another job and is a grafter.
