Premiership champions Celtic are aiming to sign Marcelo Saracchi from Boca Juniors – according to multiple reports in Argentina.

The experienced left-back is said to be on the radar of Brendan Rodgers' side with the finer details being discussed between both clubs as Celtic seek a back-up for Kieran Tierney.

Saracchi played for Leipzig in both games when the sides met in the group stage of the Europa League in 2018 but he was forced off due to injury in the encounter between the sides in Glasgow.

The Uruguayan has played eight times for his country and has also starred for River Plate and Roma during his career. And now Glasgow is on his radar as Boca are primed to strike a deal.

Signing specialist Cesar Luis Merlo states: "Boca already has a loan offer for one year with a fee and a purchase option.

“I understand, if Celtic improve the amounts of the option, the deal could be feasible."

Rodgers remained coy when asked as Celtic are also understood to be closing in on long-term target Michel Ange-Balikwisha.

The Celtic boss - speaking after the 3-0 win over Livingston - said: “There's a number of players that we've been at for a number of months.

“So we'll see over the next 48 hours what that looks like.”
