Dan Evans clamps Andy Murray over escalating Wimbledon roof row as he declares injured Dimitrov was 'helped'
The former Team GB doubles partners have differing opinions the centre court call
Dan Evans has told raging Andy Murray that the decision to close the roof during Jannik Sinner's Wimbledon match with Grigor Dimitrov could have helped the Bulgarian.
World No.1 Sinner was 2-0 down in sets to the veteran Bulgarian and on the verge of one of the biggest upsets of the tournament - where there was a stoppage of around 30 minutes to close to the roof on centre court.
And two-time champion Murray was quick to slam the decision, branding it "ridiculous" with sunlight expected to last for at least one more set before the roof was closed.
In the end, Dimitrov would have to to retire due to a serious-looking injury picked up just minutes after play resumed - but Evans contradicted the Scot declaring that the stoppage could have actually worked in his favour had he not suffered a tear of his left pectoral muscle.
He told talkSPORT: "I have had it closed on me on court one before - but we never started with it closed.
"I think they have to start with it open because it's an outdoor tournament, unless it's raining, obviously.
"I saw Andy's tweet, that he thought it was premature that they shut the roof, but I guess they have their reasons. For me I didn't see it as a problem - I actually thought it would help Gregor a bit.
"In the end it didn't matter, but everyone has an opinion on these things, but in the end it wasn't such a big thing."
Unimpressed Murray said following the decision on X: "So ridiculous to close the roof at this stage of the match.
"At least an hour of light left. Well over a set of tennis can still be played. It's an outdoor tournament!"
