Airdrie boss Rhys McCabe has handed the captain’s armband to former Rangers kid Aidan Wilson for this season.

‌

Young midfielder Dean McMaster will be vice-captain.

‌

Wilson, 26, who came through the Ibrox youth set-up before joining Crusaders and Glentoran in Northern Ireland, arrived at New Broomfield in June 2024, and has been given the nod, following Adam Frizzell’s decision to leave for Derry City.

‌

Former St Mirren youth McMaster, 22, joined Airdrie in July 2023, following a loan spell from the Paisley club, and has been a mainstay of their midfield.

McCabe said: “Aidan Wilson will be my captain this season, he’s on the verge of joining training, he just tweaked his groin and wasn’t fully fit after the end of the season.

‌

“The big man played through the pain barrier, so we gave him a well-needed rest and after that we managed to get a good pre-season into him.

“Hopefully now he’s healthy, fit, and stays fit.

“Dean McMaster will be my vice-captain. He has matured and almost grown into that role.

“Dean has been with me for three years, so he knows how I work, how I like to operate, and I think his game has matured from the young kid that came in to one of the more senior members in the team.

“Plus, it gives him a wee bit more responsibility, which hopefully adds to his game.”
