Gordon Reid reveals key to US Open title bid after Paralympics last summer
The Scottish star has won a record 27 major doubles titles in his career but was unable to add another to his cabinet after the wheelchair events at the 2024 US Open were cancelled due to the Paris Paralympics
Gordon Reid says his hunger for a first US Open title in four years only deepened by being denied the chance to compete in New York last summer.
The Scottish star, 33, has won a record 27 major doubles titles in his career but was unable to add another to his cabinet after the wheelchair events at the 2024 US Open were cancelled due to the Paris Paralympics.
It proved no major issue for Reid, however, who went on to clinch his second Paralympic crown at Roland Garros alongside long-time doubles partner Alfie Hewett.
But after a year away, Reid is excited to return to Flushing Meadows this summer, with the prospect of winning his first US Open doubles title since 2021.
"After missing the US Open last year I think it gives us that extra motivation," said Reid, who finished men’s doubles runner-up alongside Hewett at Wimbledon earlier this summer.
"As much as we were enjoying Paris last year, we did miss out in New York.
"So we're really excited to be back there. It has been a while since we had our hands on the title there and so we will do everything we can to get it back.
"It's really about continuing on the things we have been doing the majority of the year because, outside of the final at Wimbledon, it has all been pretty good so far.
"We will take that into New York on the hard courts and do the best we can."
Hewett and Reid were in attendance at the UK’s largest individual mass participation tennis competition, Play Your Way to Wimbledon, powered by Vodafone, last week.

"This event brings you back to what tennis is all about and why both of us started playing, which is just the love of the sport," said Reid.
"Sometimes when you are surrounded by the professional side all the time and everything is very serious, you forget that that is what it is about.
"It's great to see so many people around enjoying the sport and relishing the opportunity to play on the grass.
"We want tennis to be available and accessible to everybody and get as many people as possible enjoying the sport.
"This event encapsulates that perfectly and we’re proud to be a part of it.”
