Heartbroken Bob MacIntyre wants to smash up his golf clubs as he brutally rejects Scheffler theory
The Scottish golf star watched a four-shot lead evaporate on a baking hot day in Maryland
Raging Bob MacIntyre insists his heartbreaking defeat at the BMW Championships had nothing to do with sizzling Scottie Scheffler breathing down his neck.
The Scottish golf star watched a four-shot lead evaporate on a baking hot day in Maryland as the world's best player punished MacIntyre's error-strewn three-over-par round with his own 67 to add to a brilliant year which doubled his major win totals to four.
MacIntyre was off form from the get go and the calmness which underlined his first three rounds at Caves Valley went into hiding as he failed to keep up with the magic Scheffler was able to produce – most notably with his audacious chip-in from the edge of the green on 17th.
The Oban star wasn't having it when he was asked whether the brilliance of Scheffler spooked him. “Not at all. I mean, I can’t control what he does. Look, I mean if he doesn’t hole out, he doesn’t get up and down, on 17, he holes it.
"If he didn’t get up and down there, my ball didn’t fly two yards long, it may have been a different story. But look, he’s the better player on the day. Yeah, I’m just really pissed off right now."
MacIntyre was then pressed what it would take to overhaul Scheffler and he fired back with an emphatic response. He added: “I mean, right now, not a clue. Right now, I want to go and smash up my golf clubs, to be honest with you.”
Speaking after his latest win, Scheffler said: "I think my consistency has a lot to do with the intensity I bring to each round. I try not to take days or shots off. When it gets to this time of the year it can be a little bit tiring, today was a grind."
