Hearts draw is two points dropped, says Motherwell striker
Callum Hendry says Motherwell did too many things right to only take a draw
Callum Hendry says there’s no sugar-coating Motherwell’s 3-3 draw against Hearts yesterday, calling it two points dropped and a lesson learned.
Goals from Callum Slattery, Tawanda Maswanhise and Emmanuel Longelo inside 62 minutes at Tynecastle seemingly had the visitors home and dry.
But a stunning Harry Milne strike three minutes later sparked a comeback, with sub Claudio Braga bagging a double, and coming close to nabbing a winner.
Hendry, who signed a two-year deal from MK Dons last week, said: “Going 3-0 up here, we’ve got to see it out – there’s no hiding that, it’s not good enough.
“It’s definitely two points dropped. I think a lot of people would have taken the point before the game, but from what I’ve seen this week and even parts of today, we deserved three points.
“You’ve got to make sure, when you go 3-0 up, that you see that out and take those points home.
“It’s a learning curve and a lesson learned. We can’t let that happen again, because too many good things happened today to come away from here with a point.
“But the positives are massive and we need to make sure we get three points next week against Kilmarnock.”
Striker Hendry made his debut in 69 minutes, replacing Apostolos Stamatelopoulos, and enjoyed it.

“Going 3-0 up away at Tynecastle tells you the sort of team we’ve got here and I had a good first week training here.
“It was good, we want to see more of that, and the boys were excellent – I don’t think Hearts could live with them in the first half.
“Then they scored, just before I came on, and things changed. The crowd got up for them, and it’s a reference point for the boys to kick on from.
“You go to Tynecastle and a point is massive but that’s a reference point for the boys, we need to take confidence from that, and make it count next week.”
Hendry hopes to help Motherwell take points off of Kilmarnock at Fir Park and is enjoying Jens Berthel Askou's style of play.
“That’s the reason I signed,” he said. “I spoke to the manager. The way the boys are playing, I’ve been very impressed, and it has been a perfect move for me, so I’m happy I’ve dedicated two years of my career to here, and hopefully we can kick on.
“We’ve not been at home for a while. The pitch looks unbelievable at Motherwell and I’m looking forward to seeing the home fans as well.
“The away fans were excellent. That’s a good following this club’s got and I’m impressed, so we need to make sure we reward their time and their efforts with three points next week.”
