'Stained grout will come up clean with my five-minute fix'
Cleaning guru Carolina Mccauley has shared her go-to method for whitening grout in minutes, and it only requires three household ingredients.
Reaching for white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda is often tempting when trying to tackle stubborn stains.
But one cleaning guru says you don't need white vinegar if you've got two other household items which combine together to make the "best grout cleaning combo" that will tackle stains in minutes.
Carolina Mccauley headed to TikTok to demonstrate her technique for tackling grout without forking out on expensive cleaning products.
Carolina claims her method takes the pain out of what can be a real chore, especially when the grout stains are particularly persistent.
Whether it's the shower grout turning an unpleasant shade of yellow and sprouting mould or floor grout encrusted with black grime, the cleaning expert has shared her swift "five-minute" solution.
On her TikTok clip, Carolina declared she uses "the best grout cleaning combo". For this clever method, you'll require one cup of bicarbonate of soda, one tablespoon of washing-up liquid, and half a cup of hydrogen peroxide.
In the clip, Carolina shows how to create the concoction using these three components in a bowl.
Bicarbonate of soda isn't merely a kitchen essential for its deodorising and brightening qualities, it's also an excellent natural cleanser for grout.
Due to its gentle abrasive characteristics, bicarbonate of soda can handle grout without causing scratches on your tiles.
Hydrogen peroxide is another multi-purpose ingredient that shines at eliminating grout discolouration. It's a wiser choice than white vinegar for grout maintenance, as it won't corrode it gradually, and it's a mild disinfectant that's safe when utilised correctly.
After preparing the mixture, Carolina employed a measuring jug to spread it along the grout lines. She continued with a grout brush, carefully working the solution into the grout.
For those who don't have a grout scrubbing brush to hand, an old toothbrush would do the job. To finish off, the cleaning guru used a damp microfibre cloth to wipe away the solution.
Once the area had been wiped down, the once-stained dark grey grout appeared lighter and stain-free.
