A woman has shared her devastation after her husband 'dismissed' her favourite baby name whilst insisting it's more appropriate for a stripper. She revealed how she is expecting her second child and has been desperate to give her daughter a particular name since discovering it.

She posted on Reddit: "I am 12 weeks and five days with baby number two, yet to find out the sex. I have fallen head over heels in love with a girl's name that I have no doubt if I am pregnant with a girl that I will choose it. The problem is my husband hates it and also says there are bad connotations to the name."

She continues to detail how the name Balerina, spelt with one L, is all she has been able to contemplate since learning she was expecting.

She continued: "He said the name is associated with strippers and prostitutes (night ballerina). I have never heard that before. But after checking TikTok, it looks to be an actual thing.

"He picked out son's name the day I found out the gender and I agreed with it no matter what I thought about it.

"Fortunately, I was satisfied with the name and had no issues, but I never ever considered rejecting a name that he favoured for our son because it would've been something meaningful for him, particularly to select his name."

However, her husband isn't giving her the same leeway when it comes to naming their second child. She added: "He said he would accept Blerina as a first name or Balerina as a middle name but he said his daughter will never have that name because people will tease her and make bad connotations."

In an attempt to ease her mind, she has turned to social media to ask users for their thoughts on the name - and whether it's a good or bad idea.

One user responded: "I have a unique name. It's been trouble my entire life. Ballet is a type of dance and the dancers are called ballerinas.

"Why would you name a child after an occupation or profession? One or 2 Ls is not the issue.

"Write Peynter or Payntir, but aloud it's still the occupation Painter, one who paints. Balerina will be asked her entire life if she's also a ballerina. Get a cat, dog, bird or hamster and call it Blerina."

Another user chimed in: "This whole dad naming the boy and mum naming the girl concept is foreign to me and plain stupid.

"The name for either sex should be mutually agreed upon by both parents (not the in-laws or anybody else).

"Granted, yes, you'll likely have to make some compromises, like incorporating a family name as a middle name or whatnot.

"But at the end of the day Balerina/Blerina is a daft name and not a hill any expectant parent should die on."

A third user commented: "You're both off base. His take on that name is odd, and your desire to deliberately misspell a noun is going to be hard on your child.

"You can name your child whatever you want but if you deliberately misspell something, your child will be unique for all the wrong reasons and they'll resent you for it."
