ITV Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid announces break from show live on air
Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid announced during Thursday's show that she will be taking a break from the ITV breakfast programme in the coming weeks
Susanna Reid has announced she will be taking a break from Good Morning Britain.
During Thursday's (April 3) episode, the TV presenter and her co-host Ed Balls woke up viewers with discussions on the day's top stories.
These included the billions made by criminal gangs through the sale of counterfeit goods on resale websites and President Trump's new 10% tariffs on UK exports to America, with higher charges on cars and steel.
Towards the end of the programme, Susanna and Ed engaged in a conversation with commentators Ayesha Hazarika and Ed Vaizey about the day's events before handing over to Lorraine Kelly.
Just as GMB was about to go off-air, Susanna disclosed that she would be taking a short break but reassured viewers of her return.
"Susanna, we'll see you in a couple weeks time," Ed said, concluding the show, reports the Manchester Evening News.
"See you in a couple of weeks, I'm going to go and spend some time off. I will be back, do not fear," Susanna responded, before passing the baton to Lorraine.
While it hasn't been confirmed who will fill Susanna's shoes during her absence, it's likely one of her fellow news anchors - Ranvir Singh, Kate Garraway or Charlotte Hawkins - will step in.
Susanna has been a staple on Good Morning Britain since 2014, following stints on BBC Breakfast, Sunday Morning Live and The Andrew Marr Show.
She typically hosts the programme from Monday to Wednesday, alongside a variety of co-presenters.
In other news from today's episode, Susanna faced criticism for making a "ridiculous" comment about Meghan Markle.
After a heated discussion about Trump's import taxes, the ITV presenter quipped: "Right, the one question we haven't asked is how is this going to affect you if you've bought products from Meghan Markle's new range. Frankly, that is the big question this morning."
However, GMB viewers were not amused by Susanna's reference to Meghan, with many expressing their annoyance on X (formerly Twitter). "FFS.... how is Susanna Reid making Trump Tariffs about Meghan Markle," one viewer vented.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 6am
