Jet2 has introduced a significant update to its travel policy which will affect families planning trips across Europe, the Canaries and the Mediterranean. Starting this month, any child under the age of two travelling on a Jet2 flight will no longer be charged for their ticket. This change applies whether you're booking a flight on its own or as part of a package holiday.

With this update Jet2 becomes the only UK airline to allow children under two to fly completely free across these popular holiday destinations. The new rule is valid for all bookings made from Friday, August 22, 2025 and applies as long as the child is under the age of two at the time of travel, the Express reports.

Previously children under two already travelled for free when booked on Jet2holidays packages, this change now extends that benefit to all seat-only flights as well, meaning that all children under two now travel free with Jet2 no matter how they book.

In another family-focused update, Jet2 has also made a change to its baggage policy for children and babies, making it easier for parents. The airline now allows families to check child equipment into the hold completely free of charge.

Under the new rules, children under the age of two are entitled to an extra 10kg baggage allowance, meaning customers can bring up to two items per child (under two) to be checked into the hold at no cost. These items include a collapsible pushchair, pram or buggy, car seat or booster seat, baby carrier, or travel cot.

Importantly the 10kg weight limit no longer applies to these items, meaning parents can travel without the added stress of these essential child equipments costing them an additional fee.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said: "As a family-friendly airline and tour operator, we are always looking at how we can make the experience even better for families travelling with us."

The CEO continued: "By putting our customers first and making these changes, meaning that all children under two now travel for free whether on a package holiday or a seat-only flight, we are making travel even more accessible for millions of families."

There has also been advice from experts at Confused.com to check passports before flying.

Alvaro Iturmendi said: "Nothing ruins the end-of-summer buzz faster than being turned away at the airport because your passport is not valid."

"It is easier to get caught out than you might think. Our research found that less than half (43 percent) [of] holiday goers know that if you are heading to the EU, your passport must have been issued less than 10 years before your departure date."

As Mr Iturmendi highlighted, all British passport holders travelling to the Schengen zone must guarantee their passport's 'date of issue' occurs within 10 years of their arrival date into the country their visiting.

Additionally the passport must be valid for at least three months after leaving the Schengen area of Europe.
