Motherwell keeper signs on at Airdrie as boss builds squad for Championship challenge
Matty Connelly has joined on loan at the Diamonds
Airdrie have confirmed the loan signing of Motherwell goalkeeper Matty Connelly for the rest of this season.
Connelly had been on loan at then-Lowland League champions East Kilbride in recent seasons, but had been recalled to Fir Park under new boss Jens Berthel Askou.
However, Airdrie have announced the 22-year-old has signed up at the Diamonds.
Connelly told the club’s website: “I’m absolutely delighted. I know it’s been brewing for a few weeks, but to get it finally over the line is brilliant.
“I’m just trying to get as much game time as possible, and obviously do as well as I can for Airdrie.
“To gain experience is my main objective.”
Airdrie goalkeeping coach David Hutton said: “Matty’s one we’ve been after for a while. We’ve been keeping tabs on him, and when he became available, we jumped at the chance.
“He’s good with the ball at his feet, a good shot-stopper, and a good all-round goalie.
“It brings us that healthy competition for places that we want all over the park.”
