When it comes to relationships, trust can be incredibly difficult to rebuild once it's been broken - and without trust, a relationship is on shaky ground.

A woman has shared her marital turmoil after finding out her husband secretly took a paternity test because he doubted he was their daughter's biological father.

The results were negative, meaning he is not the girl's dad, causing him to lose faith in his wife as he believed she had had an affair. Despite the accusations, the wife insisted she has remained faithful and that her husband is the only man who could be the father of their five year old child.

The mother's shocking story was disclosed in a Reddit post that quickly spread across social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube, reports the Mirror.

On Reddit's Relationships forum, she wrote: "My husband got a paternity test on our daughter and it came back negative, but I never cheated. Now he thinks our relationship is a lie and wants to divorce.

"I don't know how it happened and I haven't been able to stop crying all day. I never cheated. I love my husband, we've been together since college and he's the love of my life, he's handsome and kind.

"While I've slept with two other people, both were before we got together. There is no other potential father for our daughter. We were married already and actively trying for a baby.

"I never cheated, I never would cheat, and I don't know why he took that stupid test because I would never, ever cheat, but it came back negative and now he thinks he's not her dad. I don't know how to convince him it was a faulty test and I'm so scared."

The woman explained that her partner had been acting differently following the revelation and had been accusing her of cheating. In order to prove her innocence, she took a DNA test herself.

But in a shocking twist, the results turned her world upside-down. Updating her post, the woman said: "We did a few tests. Blood paternity tests for him and me, and our daughter.
