You might think you have the liberty to do whatever you want in your own home, but your neighbours may not agree with this view. After all, if your behaviour within your private property disrupts those residing next door, they could potentially have cause for grievance.

Nevertheless, when one man was partaking in a completely innocent activity in his own home - relishing his own pool and hot tub at night, and his neighbour chose to call the police, he felt it was the last straw. Now, he's plotting revenge.

The man, who remains nameless, turned to the forum website Reddit to reveal that he lives in an HOA (Homeowners Association), a private organisation in the US that supervises a residential community.

This means the HOA enforces the regulations, gathers fees and handles the upkeep of the area. Despite maintaining a solid relationship with his neighbour's husband, whom he described as a "cool dude", he declared that the wife is a "nightmare".

In a recent post on the website, he added: "She used to be president of the PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) until everyone voted her off because nobody liked her - and now she's decided to make me her personal project."

One day, the anonymous man said his neighbour "literally called the police on me for being in my own pool and hot tub at night". He continued: "Imagine explaining to a cop that you're 'breaking the law' by... relaxing on your own property."

The post went on: "Anyway, since she already treats me like the villain of her story, I figured I might as well have some fun with it. The catch is, I don't want to rack up HOA fines or give her any real ammo. I want the kind of petty revenge that makes her mad but keeps me in the clear."

He then asked for suggestions for petty revenge that would be "funny or confusing enough that she can't complain without sounding ridiculous".

He added: "I'm talking: decorations, habits, or things I can do 100% within the rules that will still drive her up the wall."

Fellow forum users chimed in with their own ideas for getting back at the neighbour.

"Get a mini trampoline and randomly pop up in front of their windows," one person suggested.

Another remarked: "Bring out a measuring tape and take various measurements, writing down the numbers. Let her wonder what you could be planning."

And a third advised: "Neighbour is clearly bugged by you using your pool and hot tub at night. Keep using them at night."
