North Lanarkshire was proud to welcome fundraiser Archie Whitfield to the area as he kicked off the next stage of his incredible journey to raise funds for The Brain Charity.

Archie is no stranger to going the distance. Earlier this year, he completed his first challenge, 20 Stadiums, 1 Goal – running an astonishing 835 miles to every English Premier League stadium in just 25 days.

Now, he’s lacing up again, this time to run to every Scottish Premiership ground.

Archie was welcomed to Motherwell FC’s Fir Park Stadium by Provost Kenneth Duffy, who praised his determination.

Councillor Duffy said: “Archie is an inspiration, not just for the miles he’s covering but for the hope and awareness he’s raising along the way. It was a pleasure to welcome him to North Lanarkshire, and we wish him every success with the rest of this amazing challenge.”

The Yorkshireman, who aims to finish the challenge in Kilmarnock, said his dad would have thought he was “a bit bonkers” but would have been proud.

“My dad Dave was a massive part of my life,” he said.

“I wanted to do something in his memory, because he was the sort of man who always tried to do something to make life for the people around him better, to make his community better.”

He added: “Dad was a massive football fan, so it’s fitting that I’m running between stadiums. He would have loved the fact it was football related. He’d be proud.”

Mr Whitfield said he was excited about seeing the big stadiums “like Ibrox and Celtic Park” and even hoped to “get to see a few matches along the way”.
