The one food that nutrition expert always buys organic as they taste 'incredible'
While organic food is normally a bit pricier, there is one product Tim Spector is always happy to stump up a bit more for.
In a world where prices seem to be constantly rising, it is getting trickier to get good food for less. Supermarket staples have been surging in recent years, and quick lunch options like Greggs or a Tesco meal deal are also becoming more expensive.
Many of us look for savings wherever we can, from choosing discounted items to making savvy swaps. But when you are trying to eat healthily, this can be even trickier.
Foods labelled 'organic' are often seen as better quality, but this isn't always the case. Generally speaking, organic foods are products that don't contain any pesticides, herbicides, or chemical additives of any kind.
This means that they tend to be pricier than non-organic produce. They may be healthier too, but the difference is in the treatment of the food.
And while going for cheaper options can save you money, there is one food that a nutrition expert has revealed that he "always" buys organic - because they taste incredible.
Genetics professor Tim Spector made the admission while appearing as a guest on an episode of the ZOE health podcast back in 2023.
He was joined by co-founder Jonathan Wolf to discuss organic foods and get to the bottom of the claim that organic means better.
Presenter Jonathan asked Tim: "We said if there was one food that you were going to buy organically what would it be? And I'd love to get the answer."
Tim replied: "Probably tomatoes actually, because I eat tomatoes nearly every day. And I think, to me, that's more important. I was going to say strawberries beause I love strawberries, but I don't have them every day.

Healthy eating
"I've tasted Italian and Spanish ones and not only do they taste better. If you can get the organic versions of those, they are pretty incredible."
Tim was well aware that some people avoid organic tomatoes due to the higher price point, but he suggested that they give it a try if the difference wasn't too big.
He continued: "You can get a can of organic tomatoes for not much more than the non-organic version.
"So it's about people thinking for themselves, but what they would change, what do they have regularly, what could they improve that would make a much bigger difference to their long-term health?"

More food and drink stories
While the increased price of organic food might put some people off, there are other options. Frozen or tinned organic food is just as healthy but usually muchy cheaper.
Tim explained: "Organic frozen food is really good. They don't have the same costs because, obviously, it probably costs more to transport organic food because it does go off quicker. So you've got to be much faster."
And in order to properly clean your food before eating it, to ensure it's as safe as possible, Tim recommends washing it with baking soda. The expert says this does the job much better than just water alone.
