Many Outlander fans had been patiently waiting for the prequel show to air, however many were concerned with how producers would link characters to the original series, but it appears they really outdid themselves.

Blood of My Blood follows Jamie and Claire's parents Ellen and Brian and Julia and Henry Beauchamp and how their love stories develop. Fans were even surprised to discover that the two sets of parent's paths actually crossed in a beautiful twist that saw Claire's parents going through the standing stones and being transported back in time.

One thing many fans have commented on is how great the casting for the new characters has been, and how much they actually look like relations of characters from the original Outlander series.

Many took to the official Outlander Instagram page to discuss it.

One fan said: "I have to give props to Blood of my Blood. Not only is it a riveting storyline, but the main characters are so well cast. It’s uncanny how much resemblance and familiarity there is to both Jamie and Claire’s theoretical parents. Really well done guys. I’m hooked.

Another agreed: "It was SO GOOD! The casting is out of this world , the actors really did their homeworks. The tons of Easter egg was so satisfying. I didn’t wait for next week!!"

While one added: "Casting has been unbelievably accurate! Amazing!"

Another admitted they were unsure at the start: "I was a wee bit apprehensive about this new cast of characters. I worried I would not be impressed. I was ever so wrong!! Excellent characters, dialogue, and plot! In love already with this new series!"

While one added: "The casting is insane. Just finished and BRAVOOOOO. Can’t wait for the next episode."

Set years before the events of Outlander, audiences have seen Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) and Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) thrust into the past, while Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) and Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) embark on a clandestine romance after a chance meeting.

The show had a total of 10 episodes and will be airing weekly on both sides of the Atlantic.

Season two of Outlander: Blood of My Blood is already in the works after Starz confirmed the show had been renewed prior to season one’s debut.

The next episode is set to have fans on the edge of their seats as Starz has dropped the trailer. It starts with a flashback to the 20th century of Julia revealing to Henry that she’d pregnant with their child.

The action cuts to the present with Henry in Scotland telling someone: “Do you have any idea how it feels to hope for something but dread it so very much at the same time?”

Julia is then seen standing on the edge of Castle Leathers, touching her pregnant stomach, hinting at trouble ahead with her impending pregnancy.
