Blood of My Blood pays tribute to Brian McCardie as prequel dedicates latest episode to late Outlander star

Outlander Blood of My Blood delves into Jamie and Claire Fraser’s parents’ love stories during the First World War and 18th Century Scotland.

Outlander Blood of My Blood dedicated its latest episode to actor Brian McCardie who plays a crucial role in the prequel.

The MGM+ drama’s fourth episode Heart of a Soldier, Henry Beauchamp (played by Jeremy Irvine) is under pressure to bring the demanding Isaac Grant (Brian McCardie) back his increased rents.

Even when he is able to get more money thanks to his newly introduced lottery system, Isaac is still furious and violently threatens Henry.

Following the final scene, a title card appeared which sweetly read: “In loving memory of our beloved friend and colleague Brian McCardie.”

The Scottish star was cast as the villainous Isaac Grant but is also known for his roles in The Bill, Snatch, Ordeal By Innocence and in Line of Duty as the notorious mafia boss Tommy Hunter.

Blood of My Blood wasn’t McCardie’s first time in the Outlander universe though as he portrayed Sir Marcus MacRannoch in the infamous season one episode Wentworth Prison.

But much to everyone’s shock, the 59-year-old died during production of Blood of My Blood last year.

His sister Sarah posted on X: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian James McCardie (59), beloved son, brother, uncle and dear friend to so many.

“Brian passed away suddenly at home on Sunday 28th April.

“A wonderful and passionate actor on stage and screen, Brian loved his work and touched many lives, and is gone much too soon.

“We love him and will miss him greatly; please remember Brian in your thoughts. Funeral arrangements will be announced in the days ahead. As a family, we would ask for privacy at this time.”

It was later revealed that McCardie had died “due to an aortic dissection” which can be caused by conditions such as long-standing blood pressure.

As of yet, it isn’t clear if the actor is going to be featured in any of the remaining episodes of season one.

His character has been referred to numerous times off-screen so it’s unclear at what point during shooting that McCardie died.

It has been reported that McCardie doesn’t feature in either episodes five or six but fans are going to have to wait to find out if he will be seen in any of the other remaining instalments.
