A tense thriller that audiences have described as "heart-pounding" has just arrived on Amazon Prime Video and it's a must-watch for fans of Squid Game.

Originally released in 2008, The Chaser follows former detective Joong-ho Eom (Kim Yoon-seok), who now manages a group of sex workers after being fired from the police force. When several women go missing, he suspects a serial killer is responsible and begins a desperate hunt to track them down and stop him.

Joong-ho starts to uncover a horrifying truth, discovering that all the missing women are connected to a single client who regularly hires his sex workers. When he realises one of his own girls is about to meet this man, a desperate race against time begins to save her life.

The film stars Kim Yoon-seok in the lead role, joined by The Handmaiden’s Ha Jung-woo, My Demon’s Kim Yoo-jung and Bedevilled’s Seo Young-hee. It also marked the directorial debut of Na Hong-jin, who went on to helm the acclaimed 2016 horror The Wailing, the Manchester Evening News reports.

The Chaser's official synopsis reads: "Ex-policeman Joong-ho believes he's caught the serial killer responsible for the disappearance of two young women. But when the bureaucratic police department are forced to release him, Joong-ho finds himself in a race against time to find evidence against the killer before it's too late."

The film lasts just over two hours and holds an impressive 89 per cent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics awarding it a strong 82 per cent score.

Taking to Rotten Tomatoes to review the film, one viewer penned: "I did not expect much when I went to watch the movie but boy was I wrong. I was fully satisfied with this film because it had everything. The movie had suspense, action and a bit of humour put into it."

Meanwhile, a second viewer chimed in, stating: "One of the best thriller films I've seen. This film is squirm [sic] and gripping with dark and disturbing hard to watch scenes."

Another viewer echoed the sentiment, writing: "One of the best thrillers I have watched. It's suspenseful and horrifying and keeps your heart pounding till the end credits roll. Kudos to both the leads, in particular I like how the hero is a flawed human being."

The Korean thriller has been hailed as a must-watch for Squid Game fans, thanks to its flawed protagonist, gritty themes, and touches of dark humour. Viewers of The Chaser have also compared it to other acclaimed Korean thrillers, including Memories of Murder and I Saw the Devil.
