Johnny Kenny grabbed the only goal as Celtic got up and running for pre-season.

The striker slammed home from close range to leave Queen's Park No1 Calum Ferrie with no chance as Brendan Rodgers' men dumped the Spiders in Mount Florida.

The two clubs squared off last year and while it wasn't quite the ten goal thriller shared between the sides a year ago, the Hoops boss will be delighted with the minutes in legs and dominant display on the ball as they continue preparations for the new season.

For Sean Crighton and his troops, it was a fourth outing as they get ready for Premier Sports Cup action and a return to competitive football next weekend.

Ahead of the game Celtic announced the arrival of summer signing No5 in the shape on Hayato Inamura and he was in attendance at the City Stadium alongside fellow new recruit Callum Osmand.

The likes of skipper Callum McGregor, Arne Engels, Luke McCowan and Auston Trusty played the opening 45 minutes while Ross Doohan was between the sticks.

The second half brought a changed outfield XI and the youngsters showed the boss what they could offer with Ferrie forced to make a brilliant stop onto the bar to deny Thomas Hatton.

Queen's Park had a few half chances but nothing to worry the visiting goalkeepers on a rainy and windy night in Glasgow's south side.

In the end, it was Kenny's solo strike that proved the difference in the shadow of Hampden at the Spiders' City Ground home.
