Radiohead's Thom Yorke's Fife village roots revealed as band announce 2025 tour
Radiohead’s 2025 tour has been confirmed and will undoubtedly lead to a rush for gold-dust tickets.
Radiohead are set to tour for the first time in seven years but few are aware that Thom Yorke is from Fife - making the Scottish dates something of a homecoming.
Radiohead’s 2025 tour will undoubtedly lead to a rush for gold-dust tickets.
One of the world’s best known acts, the Oxford hitmakers’ shows are likely to sell out instantly and fans will be rushing to catch the Scottish shows.
But many people aren’t aware that Thom hails from a tiny town in Fife, having been born blind.
His unlikely upbringing in Scotland first came to light when the Record caught up with the singer and the band at the height of fame in Philadelphia, before heading out with the band on their US tour.
Thom told us at the time: "I lived in Lundin Links between the age of two months and seven years old. I'd go down to the beach every day and all I remember is the incredible brightness of it all."
The news of a Radiohead tour is exciting and comes just a week after the band formed a new legal entity, suggesting they may be planning significant activity this year.
The band previously played a raft of Scottish shows over the years including gigs at King Tut’s, The Barrowlands, SECC and as well T in the Park in Kinross.
Having first shot to fame with the iconic single Creep, taken from their 1993 debut album Pablo Honey, they broke through with the follow up 1995 album The Bends while the third album OK Computer is regarded as one of the best albums of all time.
Further albums, 2000’s Kid A, 2001’s Amnesiac, 2003’s Hail To The Thief, 2007’s In Rainbows and 2011’s The King of Limbs became gradually more and more uncompromising as the band aimed for creativity over commerciality. A ninth studio album, A Moon Shaped Pool was released in 2016.
News leaked about the band’s tour plans when four tickets to a “Radiohead concert of your choice” were donated by Blueyed Pictures – the band’s management – to a Los Angeles fire relief auction run by Palisades High School.
Radiohead’s last live performance was on August 1, 2018 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, marking the end of their A Moon Shaped Pool tour in support of their album of the same name.
Last week, the band created a limited liability partnership (LLP) with the name RHEUK25, which has been something they have done a few times in the past ahead of an album, tour or reissue announcement.
LLPs allow Radiohead to operate their business affairs independently, without relying on the framework of record labels and external companies. No further information has been shared by the band about what the legal move could signify.
