Ravenscraig hosted an inspiring football festival aimed at supporting people recovering from addiction.

The Recovery Cup Festival is an inspiring annual event organised by Street Soccer Scotland and turning point in partnership with local recovery communities, treatment services, and support charities.

The festival brings together people in recovery from addiction for a day of football, friendship, and hope.

The Recovery Cup offers participants the opportunity to take part in a football tournament in a welcoming, stigma-free environment, celebrating both sporting achievement and personal resilience.

Teams are made up of people at different stages of their recovery journey, supported by friends, family, and community organisations.

Speaking after the event, Motherwell and Wishaw MSP Clare Adamson said: “The Recovery Cup Festival is so much more than a football tournament, it’s a powerful reminder that recovery is possible.

“This was about recognising the courage of those on their recovery journey, celebrating their achievements, and showing their loved ones and the wider community that there is hope beyond addiction.

“By creating a safe space free from stigma, events like this help people reconnect, rebuild, and thrive.”

The event was supported by a network of organisations including North Lanarkshire Recovery Community, Phoenix Futures, Addiction Recovery Team, and other local partners who provide crucial services to help people overcome addiction and rebuild their lives.

The festival concluded with presentations to the winning teams, but the real victory was in the shared message, that recovery is not only possible, but something to be celebrated.
