Shoppers 'run' for £34 Primark autumn jacket that looks '£100s more expensive'
The retailer is stocking a popular new jacket that's drawn comparisons to a designer version
Primark customers are raving about a new £34 autumn jacket that's drawing comparisons to a high-end designer piece. The store's Trapeze Barn Jacket gained attention after it was featured in a viral video. In the post, a fashion fan suggested the 'old money' jacket resembles a pricier alternative.
The trending video was shared by TikTok user @Amberreenie. She also praised a similar sand-coloured barn jacket in a try-on video. Amber wrote: "Not Primark dropping these old money, British countryside chic, Barbour style jackets right before Autumn/Winter."
In her caption, she told her 113,000 followers: "Run to Primark," and the post was a hit with viewers. The video racked up over 450,000 views and 60,000 likes.
One fan commented: "No I NEED the dark brown one." A second praised: "Omggggg." A third said: "Wow love!" and a fourth agreed: "I love and need omg." A fifth fan added: "So cuteeee."
Another reply said: "These are unreal." A viewer wrote: "Sorry these are PRIMARK??" An excited shopper shared: "Omg I NEEED WOW. They look so good on you," while someone thought: "They’re perfect." Amber replied: "How gorgeous."
Not all of the comments were positive, reports the Mirror. Someone else said: "Will never be a Barbour." A different viewer claimed: "They physically look super cheap." Primark describes the Trapeze Barn Jacket as a brown jacket with a cord collar and trapeze fit.
The product description says: "Layer up with this barn-style jacket in a rich brown shade. It’s cut in a trapeze silhouette for a relaxed fit that widens at the hem, with long sleeves, a button-up front and classic corduroy collar. Front flap patch pockets offer added function, while the buttoned cuffs finish the look. An easy piece to throw over casual outfits when you need that extra layer."
Primark says the jacket is 100% cotton, with a half-length sleeve and button fastening. The khaki jacket is available in sizes XS and XL, and it's available for click and collect from Primark's website.
The influencer didn't refer to a specific Barbour coat; however, the brand's Barn jackets range in price from £129 to £269. For example, the Catlin Showerproof Jacket, available in black, green or grey, retails for £219. While it's not identical to the Primark jacket, the cheaper style could still impress shoppers looking for a similar style at a more affordable price point.
The product description for the Barbour jacket says: "Discover the perfect jacket for the summer months with the Barbour Catlin Showerproof Jacket. This short showerproof style boasts a subtle A-line silhouette with tartan lining to the under cuffs. Featuring a deep inverted box pleat to the reverse and an oversized rendition of our iconic zip pull, the Catlin is a timeless style for seasonal wear."
Shoppers might also like Primark's Cropped Barn Jacket. The product description says: "Bring a bit of countryside cool to your wardrobe with this cropped barn jacket. Made from a cotton rich fabric, it’s designed in a sand shade with a contrasting brown collar for a classic touch.
"The boxy fit sits neatly at the waist, while the zip and popper front keeps things easy. Flip the cuffs to reveal a hidden plaid lining for an extra pop of detail and check out the row of poppers down the back - subtle but statement. It’s a comfy, stylish layer that pairs just as well with jeans as it does with midi skirts."
For £40, there's also The Edit Boxy Patch Pocket Jacket. The product description says: "Say hello to your new go-to layer. This cropped jacket from The Edit comes in a camel tone with a relaxed, boxy fit that’s perfect for styling over your everyday looks.
"Designed with a classic point collar and button fastening down the front, it’s finished with two oversized patch pockets for a casual touch.
