Teenager dies after falling ill at major UK music festival
The girl was rushed to hospital, but tragically died there later.
A teenager has tragically died after taking ill at a major UK music festival.
The girl, reported to be in her late teens, was attending the Emerge Festival at Boucher Playing Fields in Belfast. She was taken to hospital, but died there a short time later.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said a further two people also became unwell at the same festival - a woman in her 30s and a teenage boy.
Both are still in hospital. The woman is in a serious but stable condition, and the boy is expected to fully recover after receiving treatment, the Mirror reports.
A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "Police attended a report of the sudden death of a girl aged in her late teens on Sunday, 24th August, who died in hospital after becoming unwell at an event in south Belfast. Additionally, two people remain in hospital after taking ill at the same event.
"A woman aged in her 30s is in a serious but stable condition at this time, while a boy aged in his teens received treatment and is expected to make a full recovery. Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding all reports are ongoing."
It comes just two months after a 21-year-old man sadly died after attending the Margate Drum and Bass Festival at Dreamland, in Kent.
On June 28, Dreamland said in a social media post after temperatures reached 28C: "It was just too hot [a] day. We had to close early. Get home safely."
It was later revealed that a medical incident had been reported at the site. A local councillor sent a note to all council members by its chief executive to confirm a man had died after being rushed to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital.
The councillor told Kent Online the note read: "Very sadly, a 21-year-old man was taken by blue light services from Dreamland and died at QEQM (Hospital). We understand that medical advisers approved the medical provisions set up by Dreamland for this event, but of course, police will carry out a proper investigation."
