Xbox series that transformed genre to hit PlayStation in days after two decades
August has, unusually for this time of year, seen some high-profile games make their debut across all big platforms
August has been an exciting month for gaming enthusiasts. While the end of summer is typically a quiet spell for new video game releases, this year has ushered in some high-profile games making their debut on major platforms.
New and upcoming releases include big names like Mafia: The Old Country, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and Madden NFL 26 alongside Gradius Origins, Earthion, Heretic + Hexen and Shinobi: Art of Vengeance.
Gamers are also just a few days out from the PlayStation release of one of the most impactful third-person shooters ever - a game that people have always related with the Xbox, and for good reason.

Nearly 20 years after its initial drop on the Xbox 360, the Gears of War franchise is finally making its way to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on August 26, reports the Express.
Gears of War Reloaded is a fully optimised and enhanced port of the Gears of War Ultimate Edition. It includes the original Gears of War campaign, now playable in 4K and with support for 120 frames-per-second gameplay.
It also features all of the post-release content for the game, including an extra campaign act, various multiplayer maps and much more. The game supports cross-progression and cross-play across PlayStation, Xbox and PC, too.
First released back in 2006, the original Gears of War completely transformed the third-person shooter genre, particularly with its intuitive and cinematic cover system.
Joining the ranks of Call of Duty and Halo, Gears of War Reloaded has helped popularise online multiplayer on Xbox Live.
Now, this influential series is making its PlayStation debut, coinciding with the launch of former PlayStation and PC exclusive Helldivers 2 on Xbox.
