Yellowstone's Kevin Costner lines up next movie role after box office disaster

Kevin Costner is set to star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in an upcoming dramedy after his recent box office flop

Yellowstone legend Kevin Costner has landed a role in a forthcoming comedy-drama, marking one of his initial film appearances since the opening chapter of his ambitious four-part Western saga Horizon bombed at cinemas.

This comes after his exit from his starring role as John Dutton in the popular Paramount Network series by Taylor Sheridan midway through its fifth season.

After quitting the show to concentrate on his personal passion project, the Hollywood heavyweight has now secured a part in the comedy-drama Honeymoon With Harry for Amazon MGM Studios.

Costner will appear alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in the movie adapted from Bart Baker's novel and penned by Dan Fogelman, renowned for his successful NBC series This Is Us.

Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are set to helm the project, following their previous collaboration with Fogelman on the beloved romantic comedy Crazy Stupid Love, plus This Is Us and Paradise, reports the Mirror.

The directing duo have previously taken charge of films including I Love You Phillip Morris, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and Focus.

According to a synopsis from Deadline: "The film follows a man (Gyllenhaal) as he decides to go on a honeymoon with his would-be father-in-law (Costner) after his fiancée dies two days before their wedding."

Honeymoon With Harry represents just one of a handful of screen projects Costner has secured whilst awaiting the provisional releases of the second and third instalments of his Horizon epic.

Chapter 2 was shown at the Venice and Santa Barbara film festivals but remains without a widespread release following the commercial disappointment of the inaugural chapter.

The next instalment is currently under production, with the fourth and concluding chapter in its early stages of development.

Apart from his starring and directing role in his ambitious Civil War epic, he revisited the same period of American history for the period spy thriller The Gray House, which he assisted in producing through his company, Territory Pictures.
